US Delegation Visits QAU to Discuss Intellectual Property Rights and their Role in Economic Development

Mr. Joe Yang, Attorney Adviser, Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), State Department of Commerce, USA and Mr. David McNeill Commercial Attaché US Embassy Pakistan visited Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) on Monday. The purpose of the visit was to interact with University administration and faculty members to enhance the understanding of intellectual property rights and strengthen their role in Technology based Economic Development.

The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Eatzaz Ahmed Dean Social Sciences. Dr. Shafiq-ur-Rahman Registrar Quaid-i-Azam University briefed the delegates about the strengths and academics of QAU. Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed Director ORIC discussed about the research outcomes, commercialization activities, patents and university-industry linkages. Chairpersons of Department of economics, Department of Biotechnology, Quaid-i-Azam School of Management Sciences and School of Law also attended the meeting. Prof. Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari Chairman Department of Biotechnology urged the delegates to help in capacity building and to promote awareness on intellectual property rights. Mr. Joe Yang assured to include Quaid-i-Azam University in the upcoming capacity building programs of CLDP. The delegates visited Department of Biotechnology, School of Law and School of Politics and International Relations.
