QAU Celebrates World Fisheries Day
The Department of Animal Sciences, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in collaboration with National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC) organized an awareness walk to mark the World Fisheries Day.
The objective of the event was to draw attention towards issues of fisheries and fish industry in Pakistan including overfishing and habitat destruction. A large number of faculty members, students, researchers and staff participated in the walk and visited the fisheries and aquaculture facility at QAU. Students of “Fisheries & Aquaculture Program” demonstrated the fish harvesting and use of the solar energy for cooking.
Dr. Amina Zuberi, Associate Professor, Department of Animal Sciences, QAU and incharge of the program briefed the participants regarding impact of consumption of polluted water fish on human health and other serious threats to the sustainability of our marine and freshwater resources. QAU Vice Chancellor, Dr. Javed Ashraf, Deans of the faculties, students of the Department and faculty members attended the event.
