Diabetes Screening Camp and Awareness Seminar Held at Quaid-i-Azam University
A diabetes screening camp and awareness seminar was organized at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in collaboration with the Quaidian Association of Microbiologists and The Diabetic Center (TDC) Network, Pakistan. The event aimed to raise awareness about diabetes screening, prevention, and treatment options. Leading diabetes experts addressed the attendees, providing insights into the importance of early detection and effective diabetes management.
Dr. Nasreen Naveed, a renowned Diabetologist, delivered a compelling presentation on the causes, types, and preventive measures of diabetes, highlighting it as one of the greatest health challenges of the 21st century. “We must understand this disease to better protect ourselves,” she emphasized. She also shared key statistics, citing the World Health Organization: “58.1 percent of Pakistan’s population is overweight, and 43.9 percent is classified as obese.” Ms. Shafaq Bushra, a nutritionist, underscored the role of a balanced diet, regular exercise, and physical activity in diabetes management and overall well-being. She advised, “A balanced diet is essential for good health and should never be overlooked.”
The event featured hands-on screening activities by “Hospital on Wheels,” offering glucose tests, blood pressure checks, and diabetes counseling sessions. Faculty members, students, and TDC experts actively participated in the camp, receiving valuable insights and guidance on diabetes care.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Imran, a renowned microbiologist with expertise in food microbiology, delivered a comprehensive talk on diabetes from a microbiological perspective. He emphasized the crucial role of gut microbiome in diabetes development and management. Earlier Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naeem, Chairperson of the Department of Microbiology welcomed the participants. , Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ishtiaq Ali, Director, ORIC / Academics Quaid-i-Azam University said the initiatives like Diabetes Screening Camp and Awareness Seminar would help to foster a healthier community. A large number of students, faculty, and employees attend the event.
