Bangladeshi Academic Delegation Visits QAU to Strengthen Higher Education Cooperation

A high-level delegation of senior Bangladeshi academicians visited Quaid-i-Azam University to explore avenues for academic collaboration, strengthen institutional linkages, and promote cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh in the field of higher education.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal, Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University, and Prof. Dr. Tasawar Hayat, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences. During the visit, Dr. Shafiq-ur-Rehman, Registrar, QAU, delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the University’s academic programs, research strengths, international linkages, achievements, and global rankings.

The visiting scholars showed keen interest in the University’s examination, assessment, and evaluation systems, particularly the evaluation process for PhD candidates. Addressing the delegation, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zafar Nawaz Jaspal elaborated on the University’s rigorous PhD evaluation framework. He noted that a robust combination of internal quality assurance mechanisms and external review of doctoral theses ensures the highest academic standards and contributes to the quality and credibility of the University’s PhD degrees.

The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the University’s vibrant research culture and its commitment to encouraging faculty members and scholars to undertake research that addresses national priorities and societal needs. He informed the delegation that Quaid-i-Azam University is ranked among the top universities in Pakistan and is placed 354th globally. He further noted that the University ranks 50th in the world in Citations per Faculty, reflecting the international impact and quality of its research output.

Both sides exchanged views on potential areas of cooperation and discussed opportunities for future collaboration in research, faculty exchange, joint academic initiatives, and higher education development.

The Bangladeshi delegation comprised distinguished scholars from leading universities, including the University of Rajshahi, University of Dhaka, University of Chittagong, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Jahangirnagar University, North South University, BRAC University, Asian University of Bangladesh, and Southeast University.

Among those present from Quaid-i-Azam University were Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ishtiaq Ali, Chairperson Department of Microbiology and Director ORIC, Dr. Salma Malik, Director External Linkages, Dr. Hasan Mahmood, Department of Electronics, Prof. Dr. Ghani-ur-Rahman, Provost of the Boys Hostel, Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Khan, Director, NIIS and Humayoun Khan, Additional Registrar, QAU. The visit concluded with a shared commitment to fostering stronger academic ties and enhancing collaboration between higher education institutions of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
