4th International Applied Economics Conference: Climate Change Economy, Society and People

School of Economics (SOE), Quaid-i-Azam University organized the “4th International Applied Economics Conference: Climate Change Economy, Society and people” a meaningful dialogue among students, faculty members, researchers, government officials, and policymakers.

The Director SOE Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tariq Majeed welcomed the conference participants with a brief welcome note and set the tone for the proceedings. Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University graced the occasion as the chief guest and lauded the efforts of the conference organizers.

Dr. Eatzaz Ahmed, an eminent professor in the field of economics, brought his visionary expertise to the stage, leaving an indelible imprint on participants’ understanding of economic principles and policies related to climate change challenges. Prof Dr. Bushra Yasmin, Prof. Dr. Hazir Ullah, and Prof. Dr. Abdul Rashid conducted the technical sessions with their professional expertise. Notably, one of the technical sessions was conducted by students, showcasing their talents and creativity, including a poster competition that added a vibrant dimension to the event.

One conference session was devoted to a scholarly workshop- Investigating the causes of flood loss in mango and tomato value chains, opportunities for loss mitigation, and factors influencing behavioral change among value change partners from farm to fork. The workshop organizer Prof. Dr. Anwar Shah and his team members meticulously examined opportunities for loss mitigation and the factors influencing behavioral shifts among value chain partners. The international cadre of trainers, each a paragon of expertise, included Dr. Thilak Mallawaarachchi, Dr. Manoj Thibbotuwawa, Dr. Nouman Ejaz, Dr. Nazim Hussain Labar, Mr. Shahjahan Hashmani, Dr. Aneela Afzal, and Dr. Fatima Sharif. Their scholarly contributions added a touch of global refinement to the event.

An exceptional panel discussion “Contemporary Economic and Environmental Challenges: A Way Forward” unfolded the issues addressed by this conference more effectively. Our panelists- Dr. Seemi Malik, Dr. Wasim Shahid Malik, Dr. Ali Sulman, Dr. Idrees Khwaja, Dr. Zafar ul Hassan, and Dr. Sohail Yousaf Provided valuable insights on economic and environmental challenges. Their collective expertise, representing diverse fields, held the promise of yielding invaluable insights into the enthralling realms of climate and the economy. Mr. Zafar Ullah Khan the Chief Executive, of Ideas for Vision 2047, Pakistan, and Mr. Haider Abbas, DG of Finance PIPS Parliament of Pakistan have joined us and shared their intellects in a very innovative way and inspirational examples to reveal the importance of the issue with students, researchers, and academicians. Finally, Professor Dr. Muhammad Tariq Majeed concluded the conference with a vote of thanks.
