Three Days Workshop on Software for Economics Research
School of Economics, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in collaboration with Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) organized a workshop titled “Second 3 Days workshop on Software for Economics Research” from July 1, 2013 to July 3, 2013. Main objective of the workshop was to introduce statistical tools available in Econometrics software Eviews, RATS, and Stata. The use of these software is increasing day by day in qualitative as well is in quantitative research.
During these three days, first day was allocated to Eviews, second day to RATS, and third day to Stata. Students and researchers discussed various underlying econometric techniques of software in detail. It was a wonderful opportunity for participants to learn that how to use software for data analysis in Economics, Finance and Management Sciences. The resource persons of the workshop including Prof. Dr. Eatzaz Ahmad and Dr. Muhammad Jamil gave lectures for Eviews; Dr. Wasim Shahid Malik and Dr. Muhammad Jamil for RATS; Dr. Abdul Jalil for Stata.
The targeted participants of the workshop were the faculty members, PhD and MPhil students, and other researchers. PhD and MPhil students were highly encouraged to attend the workshop. Overall, seventy representatives from twenty-one different universities/Institutes that are Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Federal Urdu University of Arts Science and Technology (FUUAST), Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Bahria University (BU), Muhammad Ali Jinah University (MAJU), Government College Asgharmall, Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), University of Sargodha (UOS), COMSATS Islamabad, Foundation University, National University of Modern Languages (NUML), University of Malakand, Goverment College Peshawar, Government College University, Faislabad, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), Kashmir Institute of Economics, Muzaffarabad, UAJK, University Sains Malaysia, Gomal university, and Center for Advanced Studies in Engeniering, Islamabad (CASE) participated in the workshop.
Among these participants, there were 2 professors, 1 Associate professors, 3 Assistant professors, 6 Lecturers, 26 PhD Students, 30 MPhil students, 1 MS students, and one researcher from the universities/ institutes mentioned above. It is also worth mentioning that Prof. Dr. Aliya H. Khan, Dr. Badshah Nawab, Dr. Ijaz Hussain, Dr. Abdul Sattar and Dr. Memoona Rauf Khan were also among the participants.
Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Vice Chancellor QAU-Islamabad was the chief guest in the closing ceremony. He appreciated the efforts from the faculty of School of Economics for conducting the workshop. He suggested that QAU should take up the leadership role of capacity builder for empirical research in various other institutes. He assured the participants that such events in QAU-Islamabad will continue in future on regular basis. Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai distributed certificates and shields to the participants and resource persons of the workshop. At the end, Prof. Dr. Aliya H. Khan, Director, School of Economics gave a vote of thanks to the participants, resource persons and the chief guest Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai.
