Three-Day Workshop Unleashes RNA-Seq Mastery at Department of Zoology
The Department of Zoology in collaboration with Office of Research Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) QAU hosted a transformative three-day hands-on workshop on RNA-Seq Data Analysis, empowering researchers and students with cutting-edge skills in decoding gene expression through bioinformatics. Headed by Dr. Kiran Afshan, Chairperson of the Department, the immersive program bridged theory and practice, equipping attendees with tools to navigate the fast-evolving world of genomic research.
Under the expert guidance of Dr. Naeem Mahmood Ashraf Naeem Mahmood Ashraf (PhD) renowned bioinformatics specialist, participants dove into intensive training sessions that blended theoretical foundations with hands-on computational exercises. The workshop demystified complex workflows—from raw sequencing data processing to differential gene expression analysis—using industry-standard tools like HISAT2, StringTie, and DESeq2. Attendees emerged confident in analyzing high-throughput datasets, interpreting results, and applying these techniques to their own research.
The closing ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr. Irfan Zia Qureshi, Dean Faculty of Biological Sciences, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ishtiaq Ali, Director office of Research innovation & commmercilisation (ORIC) who praised the organizers Tayyaba Shan and the initiative as a critical leap forward in strengthening molecular biology expertise. Both emphasized the growing demand for bioinformatics proficiency in modern research and applauded the department’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary skills.
The event culminated in a vibrant certificate distribution ceremony, celebrating participants’ dedication and newly acquired expertise.
