Seminar on “Importance of Clinical Legal Education” Organized by School of Law

A Seminar on “Importance of Clinical Legal Education” organized by School of Law, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) was held at SPIR auditorium. The objective of the seminar was to inform students and faculty about role of Clinical Legal Education in bridging the gap between theory and practice of law. In Clinical Legal Education students get opportunity of working with real clients and face real problems of professional life.

Mr. Kamran Arif Advocate, Legal Advisor of Foundation Open Society Institute and Co-Chairman Human Rights Commission of Pakistan was the Chief Guest and key note speaker of the event. In his detailed presentation Kamran Arif briefed the students about historical background and function of the Legal Clinics. “The essence of Clinical Legal Education is to provide an experiential knowledge to the students and give them understanding of social context in which the law operates” he said.   He highlighted the wider concept of rule of law and role of legal clinics for improving access to justice. He said that through this exercise students can help people facing human rights abuses and inequality.

Earlier In his welcome address Incharge School of Law Mr. Arshad Nawaz Khan highlighted the salient features of School of Law. He said that School of Law, QAU was established in August 2013, a milestone achieved with hard work and dedication of faculty and administrative staff. Mr. Arshad Nawaz said that School of law plans to establish legal clinic on University  premises to involve students in clinical legal education. He said that it is one of the most important objectives of the School to impart legal education in a way that graduates of the School acquainted with strong academic and professional background to excel in the field of law.

Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Aliya H. Khan appreciated the organizers of the event. She also thanked the resource persons for conducting interactive sessions and sharing their experience and wisdom with students. Renowned lawyer Mr. Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Advocate Supreme Court and Prof. Dr. Sohail Shehzad, Vice Chancellor, Hazara University also spoke on the event. A large number of students and senior faculty members attended the seminar.
