Seminar on “Democratic approach of EU towards Pakistan”

Students of the Department of Anthropology, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) organized a seminar on “Democratic approach of EU towards Pakistan” to discuss multiple dimensions of bilateral relations between the two regions.

Dr. Altaf Hussain, a senior journalist and analyst on foreign affairs briefed the students regarding   EU’s support for democracy and its efforts towards economic recovery of the country. He stressed the need for a comprehensive mechanism to monitor the pace and effectiveness of foreign aid projects in the country. He was of the view that Pakistan has not yet reaped the advantages of GSP Plus status due to governance issues and prevailing energy crises. “We must concentrate to get benefits from this window of opportunity” he added.

Dr. Mazhar Javeed, D.G. Europe Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the importance and historical background of bilateral relations of EU and Pakistan. Dr. Waheed Chaudhry, Chairperson Department of Anthropology, appreciated the organizers including Mr. Adnan Jameel, course coordinate for” European Studies” and students, Iqra Rehman, Shanza Tariq, Aamna Baig, Adnan Karim, Abdul Jabbar, Umair Aslam, and Izza Asif for providing a wonderful opportunity to discuss and debate an important issue. Peer Syed Mudassir Nazar Shah, President, NGO, Salook, Dr. Rao Nadeem Alam, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology and Dr. Jamil Asghar Jami, Assistant Prof. NUML University, also addressed the audience. A large number of students and faculty members attended the seminar.
