One-Day Workshop: Enhancing Biosafety and Biosecurity in Laboratories – Risk Assessment and Management

One-Day Workshop on “Enhancing Biosafety and Biosecurity in Laboratory: Risk Assessment and Management,” was successfuly conducted today at Department of Microbiology QAU. This pivotal training event was organized by the Quaidian Association of Microbiology, in partnership with the PBSA and Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) QAU.

The workshop was inaugurated by Chief organizer Prof. Dr. Rani Faryal, who welcomed the participants and outlined the critical objectives of the day. Dr. Shazia Adeel, Principal Scientific Officer at the National Institute of Health (NIH), was the master trainer. Dr. Shazia expertly conducted comprehensive sessions on:


✅ Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE)
✅ Hands-on Exercise on Spill Containment within a BSC and in the Lab
✅ Core Concepts of Biosafety & Biosecurity
✅ Risk Assessment & Management Frameworks

A large number of PhD, MPhil, and BS students attended the training, reflecting a strong commitment to upholding the highest standards of laboratory safety.
In concluding remarks, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ishtiaq Ali, Chairman of the Department, underscored the indispensable role of continuous biosafety training. He reaffirmed the department’s dedication to providing such essential capacity-building activities for our students and faculty. Prof. Ali extended his sincere appreciation to Dr. Shazia Adeel for her invaluable expertise and to Prof. Dr. Rani Faryal and PBSA for adept organization and mediation of the event. He also commended the students and faculty for their active engagement and lauded the Quaidian Association of Microbiology for their impeccable arrangements.

The event concluded with a formal certificate and shield distribution ceremony, honoring the participants and the contributors.
