MoU Signed between QAU and Critical Green for Technical Cooperation in Bioremediation
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad (QAU) and Critical Green Private Limited for technical cooperation and promotion of scientific development and deployment of Bioremediation through Hybrid Constructed Wetlands as most feasible, cost effective and socially acceptable solution of waste-water treatment.
The memorandum was signed by Dr. Javed Ashraf, Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University and Mr. Mohammed Aqeel Saleem Director, Critical Green, a technology developer and implementer for Construction of Hybrid Constructed Wetlands.
Prof. Dr. Safia Ahmed, Department of Micro Biology, while briefing the participants regarding the quality and capacity of research at QAU in the water and sanitation area said that a small scale sewage treatment and wastewater reuse system has already been successfully established at Quaid-i-Azam University. Under the project a large scale wetland has been constructed to treat the water of residential colonies of the University. Treated water is now being used to irrigate the plants on the site. She said that under the MoU Bioremediation Unit developed at D-Type Staff Colony would be declared as ‘Research and Development Facility for Bioremediation’, where new approaches would be tested for treatment of waste-water.
“The Cooperation would help to establish industry academia linkages and to engage young faculty members and scholars to develop efficient methods for the treatment of sewage and reuse of wastewater and bio-solids” said Dr. Safia Ahmed.
Dr. Fariha Hasan Chairperson, Department of Microbiology, Prof. Dr. Shahid Hameed, Director ORIC (QAU), Dr. Naima Atiq, Manager R & D, ORIC (QAU), Mr. Shahzad Ali Gill, Manager, University Advancement, Dr. Ashiq Mohammad, Technical Advisor, Critical Green and senior faculty members attended the ceremony.
