14th Regional Conference on Mathematical Physics Starts at QAU
The 14th Regional Conference on Mathematical Physics jointly organized by Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, and National Center for Physics (NCP) started here on Monday. Prof. Dr. Javed Ashraf, Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University and Dr. Hafeez Hoorani, DG, National Centre for Physics, Islamabad inaugurated the conference.
After inaugural ceremony Pervez Hoodbhoy, well known physicist delivered a talk on “New mathematics for old physics”. Yafis Barlas University of California, Riverside, USA and Zouhair Mouayn Sultan Moulay Slimane University, Morocco also addressed the conference.
Regional Conferences have been held for the last thirty years in Pakistan, Turkey and Iran. But the participants and speakers come from all over the world. In 14th Regional Conference on Mathematical Physics, there are about 30 speakers have come from all parts of the world: Asia, Europe, USA and Africa.
Prof. Riaz-ud-din who has played an important role in the organization of this series of Conferences passed away in 2013. Keeping in view his role in this series and his lifetime efforts for promoting science, education and high caliber research in Pakistan, the Conference is dedicated to him.
The conference will continue till November 14, 2015. The subject of talks will cover a wide range of topics in theoretical and mathematical physics including conformal field theory, gravitation and cosmology, superstring theory, phenomenology of high energy physics, condensed matter physics and plasma physics. Celebrating the centenary of general relativity in 2015, there will be a particular focus on this field.
