Department of Environmental Sciences, Quaid-i-Azam University in collaboration with Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency and Pakistan ACADEMY of Environmental Sciences is organizing a two days “International Conference on Waste Business and Management”. This conference aims to address the important issue of waste production and management in Pakistan. Waste generation in Pakistan has become a significant concern, with approximately 48.5 million tons of solid waste being produced annually. Alarming projections suggest that if current trends in population growth and urbanization continue, this amount will double by 2050. In Islamabad alone, a city with a population of 2.6 million, 1,535 tons of solid waste is generated each day. Regrettably, the lack of a well-structured institutional mechanism for waste collection, sorting, treatment, and disposal has led to severe environmental pollution and health risks. The conference will take place on 12 – 13, September 2023 at Geo Auditorium, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan.
