Establishment of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Youth Club at the Department of Anthropology
On November 19, 2024, the Department of Anthropology hosted a session with the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Islamabad team consisting of Ms. Nadia Imad (Assistant Director youth & volunteers) , Ms. Tayyab Nawaz (Youth & volunteer officer) , and Mr. Sohail Baloch (IT assistant youth & volunteer) marking the establishment of the PRCS Youth Club. The PRCS, as an auxiliary to the government, aspires to mobilize youth volunteers on a large scale, coordinate with youth-focused organizations, and promote best practices in volunteer management. It also advocates for the importance of volunteerism in Pakistan.
Dr. Inam Ullah Leghari, Chairperson of the Department of Anthropology, welcomed the PRCS team with a brief introduction to the discipline of anthropology and its role in community development. He underscored the critical importance of volunteerism and civic engagement, emphasizing their potential to channel the energy of Pakistan’s youth, the largest demographic cohort in the country, towards constructive nation-building. Dr. Leghari commended PRCS for its efforts in providing platforms for young individuals to develop essential skills while serving humanity.
A detailed presentation on the PRCS’s history and mission followed, delivered by a PRCS representative. The speaker elaborated on the impactful contributions of youth volunteers across Pakistan, including relief distribution, blood collection, community awareness campaigns, disaster management, psychosocial support, and community-based first aid training. He emphasized the importance of building youth capacity to create a sustainable pool of skilled volunteers who can continue to serve society over time.
The Chairperson of the department expressed gratitude to the PRCS team for their visit and applauded the students for their active participation and enthusiasm for volunteerism.
