Symposium on “Policies to develop microelectronics industry in Pakistan”

Symposium on “Policies to develop microelectronics industry in Pakistan” organized by the Department of Electronic in collaboration with the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) was held recently.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University said that a consortium of 10 plus public and private sector organizations have planned to develop microelectronic industry Pakistan. Dr. Ali said that soon Pakistan will have own microelectronics industry. The speakers highlighted that it is worth 100 billion USD global industry and Pakistan has no share right at the moment. Whereas this global industry going to touch USD 800 billion in next 20-30 years. The speakers said the Government must pay attention to train graduates on IC and chip design and support for new ventures in microelectronic industry. This industry can add USD 02 billion and many other socioeconomic benefits

Dr. Arshad Hussain, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Mr. Jafar Safdar, CTO, Lampro Mellon, Lahore, Mr. Zaheer Ahmed, Project Manager NIDA-TUSDEC/ORIC USKT, Mr. Ishtiaq Hussain Kiani, CEO Skill Development Council, Islamabad and Mr. Sohail from Sialkot Surgical industry also addressed the audience.
