Germany to provide aid for TIAC up gradation

Germany would extend financial assistance for up gradation of Taxila Institute of Asian Civilizations (TIAC) that is acting as a catalyst to understand the common and diverse features of the people of Asia, primarily in the historic mode.

The financial assistance would be provided under Pakistan-German Educational Development Project signed on Friday last between Dr. Michael Koch, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany and Dr. Hugh van Skyhawk Professor of Comparative Religion at TIAC and Principal Advisor to the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ/CIM) for the upgrading of the Taxila Institute.

The Taxila Institute of Asian Civilizations is a constituent institute of the Quaid-i-Azam University. It is intended to function as an institute which promotes research on Asian Civilizations, past and present, and to focus on the interaction of the countries of Asia in the various fields of cultural research.

While addressing the signing ceremony the ambassador, Dr. Koch, expressed his fervent hope that this initial financial assistance for developing Taxila Institute would help empower Pakistani students of social sciences and humanities to become full fledged citizens of the ‘Republic of Knowledge’.

The Vice Chancellor of the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai in his address emphasized the importance of exchanges of academics between the Quaid-i-Azam University and universities in the Federal Republic of Germany in all academic disciplines but, especially, in the social sciences and humanities.

Cultural Counselor of the German embassy, Ms. Katharina Lack and other officials of the German Embassy also attended the ceremony.
